| Chocs away |
Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without chocolate, but anyone feeling guilty by Boxing Day can take comfort in the discovery that chocolate can be eco-friendly.
By-products from chocolate manufacturing have in the past been disposed of in landfill, but a British company has developed a process of using the leftovers to make biofuel. Mixed with vegetable oil, this becomes biodiesel, which can be used to run engines. So tuck in!

| What a fuel |
A driver was reported to the police in Germany after he filled his car with petrol at a service station, paid for the fuel and then walked home, leaving his car behind. After the car had been blocking the pump for an hour, a petrol station employee became suspicious and alerted the police.
When they contacted the driver he admitted that he had completely forgotten that he had had the car with him. |

| Wwwacky website |
Although for most of the year the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) presumably busies itself with visitors of a more concerning nature, at Christmas time there is only one UFO it is interested in - and that's Santa.
NORAD tracks Santa Claus on his annual journey around the world at a special website - www.noradsanta.org. As well as interactive Christmas games, this year it'll offer Santa tracking in 3D using Google Earth, starting at 6pm WST on December 24. Ho, ho, ho!

| |
Garth and Leanne Tander have finished 1st and 2nd respectively in their Motorsport Championships.
It has been a long racing season for the pair, who in 2007 made Motorsport history by becoming the first husband and wife racing drivers to lead Australia's premier motor racing categories. Leanne also made history, becoming the first woman to win a race and later on to lead the battle for the prestigious CAMS Gold Star in the Formula 3 Series.

Asimo's great strides |
| |
Although Asimo, the world's most advanced humanoid robot, can't drive a car himself - yet - he is proving very helpful to engineers who are working to make vehicles safer.
Much of the technology that has been developed by Honda to create the 1.3 metre tall metal man has subsequently been used in the design of new cars. The system that gives Asimo his distinctive human walk has been used to prevent vehicles from swerving, for example, and the technology that gives him the ability to avoid obstacles also helps cars to prevent collisions.
So clever is Asimo that Honda's headquarters in Japan has an Asimo receptionist, who greets visitors, informs staff of their arrival and even guides them to their destination in the building. |

Get up and go |
| |
A team of researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have come up with the idea of providing two-seater electric cars at railway and bus stations to give commuters a 'socially responsible' way of getting around.
The City Cars fit together in a rank like shopping trolleys, where they charge themselves until they are needed. Commuters are invited to pick up a car from the front of the rank and take it to their destination. The car can then be returned to the back of the rank at a later date for recharging. Parking is no problem as the City Cars have an electric motor in each wheel, and this all-wheel-drive means they can enter parking spaces sideways. |
