| Top 5 Things to do at Goat Rock! |
When you go camping there is a number of great activities for the whole family that will keep everyone occupied! Here are five of the top things to do whilst at Goat Rock.
1. Bushwalking Get your walking shoes on, put on a hat and some sunscreen and head out into the bush and discover our fascinating rocks, flora and fauna. There are many interesting rock formations, large Moreton Bay Fig Trees, and other native trees and plants at Goat Rock. Hours can be spent wandering around exploring these fascinating natural wonders.
2. Stargazing Goat Rock is a spectacular viewpoint for gazing at the night sky. Even with the naked eye, millions of stars and other objects can be viewed. With absolutely no light pollution, Goat Rock's night sky is a great entertainment. A Sky Map is regularly placed in the information stand for a more detailed viewing experience.
3. Birdwatching There is an abundance of birdlife at Goat Rock and it is quite interesting to watch birds in their native environment. There are numerous tips to remember to make your time birdwatching more enjoyable:
- Take a pair of binoculars - but find birds with your naked eye first, as binoculars have a narrow field of view making it hard to search for birds.
- If you want to identify what birds you are seeing, buy a good field guide.
- The best time to go birdwatching is the mornings when the birds are searching for food.
- Respect the environment and the birds - don't get too close to nests, colonies, roosts, or important feeding sites.
- Dress appropriately, it is best if you blend in with the rest of the environment.
- Don't make loud noises or sudden movements as you will frighten the birds away.
4. Campfires Sitting around a campfire, toasting marshmallows and telling stories is a great way to enjoy a relaxing evening after the adventures of the day. Just remember to watch children around the campfire.
5. Feed the Animals There are a number of farm animals at Goat Rock including chooks, geese, turkeys, peacocks, guinea fowl, minature horses, donkeys, goats, sheep - just to name a few! Kids just love to help collect the eggs and feed the animals. Even the natives get in on the action with a number of native birds coming into the chook pens to be fed. Also the kangaroos and wallabies like to spend their time in the evenings on the grass of the camping area near the toilets and showers and can be viewed from a close distance. |
