Bright backgrounds working against us
You've chosen the most beautiful place to get married, you will be married under a pergola outside with this amazing beautiful background behind you both, you think, "the guests are going to love it". When the photography and myself arrive, we think, oh dear.

Reason being, because you, the couple are standing in the shade or under cover, and the background behind you is very bright, both cameras struggle with getting the settings right, as the brighter background brings in more light and therefore makes the couple standing in front of that extremely dark. You will notice the photographer using the flash to compensate this. Not only will we struggle, but also your guests will struggle to get good photos, with so much back light behind you.

Even when you are married inside and there is a big window behind you with light streaming in, this is another problem as again, the footage gets blown out with the brightness of the background.

My suggestion to over come this, is either, you get married in the same sunlight as the background or have a solid wall or curtain behind to reduce the brightness which will allow us to get some fantastic footage.

Microphone's, using them correctly
In recent issues we've spoken about the importance of microphones in the Ceremony and having access to use them to do your vowels, l still see clients refusing to use microphones or not understanding the importance of them.

The microphones will be used by the person giving a reading or saying a pray, but not to the couple who are actually getting married, this l believe is a massive mistake.

As you say your vowels to each other, of course you will hear them, as your standing across from each other, but what about your 100 guests who are in the church, they will only hear the priest or celebrant and none of your voices. We all love to hear the couple get a little chocked up and nervous when doing their vowels, it makes it all that more special, so please ensure you consider it on your wedding day, please don't be shy, be proud to read your vowels out loudly to each other and to all your guests.

Another thing l see at the reception, is people getting up to do a speech and they hold the microphone down near their waist, or l've also seen them used as pointing devices, and pretty much waived around in the air, but not actually used to project your voice across the room.

When using a microphone, please hold it up near your mouth, then it can pick up your voice correctly and everyone in the reception can hear what your saying and clap and laugh at all the right spots in your speech.

Footage until the end of the night
Is it really important to film until the end of the reception ?

Personally, l think NO. Once you have done all the formalities and speeches are over, cake is cut and you've done your bridal waltz and danced with your parents, l believe you can pretty much wrap up the filming and allow us to leave. Once all the formalities are done, the dance floor is opened up and everyone hits it & the reception centre lowers the lights and for us to get any good footage, we need to turn our light on. This normally upsets the guests as they have all had a few beers (it is a wedding) and are ready to party, they don't want a bright light in their face.

Personally, l believe you get better value for money from getting footage 2 hours before the wedding, than 2 hours after the formalities are done, you can get footage of the boys getting ready and the girls getting ready rather than your brothers drunken mates trying to hit on one of your bridesmaids on the dance floor !!!

Not saying that we won't stay until the end of the night, if that is what you really want, l just think your money is better spent getting footage before the ceremony than after. If you wanted a shot of you leaving, you can always set up a mock shot, of you two walking out the door and off into the future at 9pm rather than at 12pm and paying an extra 3 hours coverage.

Add Raw Footage to your package

You've just been married and after the amazing build up, it's finally over (in a good way) and it now seems like a distant memory. I do remember my brothers wedding in October last year, a day or 2 later when l was capturing the footage to my computer, l couldn't believe it was only a couple of days earlier, it seemed so long ago.

It made me realised the important of supplying raw footage to my clients, so they can relive there day without having to wait the 6-8 weeks to get their edited footage back.

We can have raw footage to you within 2 weeks so you can watch the day how it was captured, you may get a few shaky shots, or movement as we move from one location to the next, as sometimes, everything happens so fast and you want to get the shot, but don't want to stop the camera and miss the moment. Advantages of the day is to hear how nervous the groom when getting ready, the girls and all their excitment while helping you get dress and the groom's comments while waiting for you to arrive and the uncut version of guest messages (that may be cut do to being inappropriate)!!!

Raw footage is only $50+GST and it will be waiting in your letterbox by the time you arrive back from your honeymoon, call the office now to add it to your package.
