Get your dose of Artz in the Park! Stirk Park is a treasured public space that everyone in Kalamunda appreciates - it is also the home of the annual Zig Zag Festival held on the last Sunday of October every year.
This year Zig Zag Arts will be coordinating a project to design, make and install a new artwork in the park and we hope that lots of young people will join in the workshops to help us create something wonderful.
The finished artwork will form a balustrade around the Checker Board Stage in Stirk Park and will incorporate wrought iron panels and original youth designed murals to create a permanent attraction in the park.
The project is being organised by Zig Zag Arts in collaboration with the Shire of Kalamunda, the Office of Crime Prevention and Youth Action Kalamunda.
Brody Rahaley will be the artistic coordinator for the mural designing and painting workshops that will be held at Headingly Road Cottage during the July school holidays. To register your interest or get more information about the project please call Celia at Zig Zag Community Arts on 9291 3092.

| Lesmurdie 2000 Saved from the Archives |
The transcripts of the Lesmurdie 2000 meetings, which were held by the Lesmurdie Ratepayers Association Inc ( nee Progress Association) in the seventies, have been saved from the archives with the compilation of a book and c.d. Shire President Donald McKechnie officially launched the new LESMURDIE 2000 resources on Friday the 17th of April 2009. Shire President Donald McKechnie said, "I believe that this fantastic community resource will be of great benefit from an educational, informational and historical perspective."
"With successes, diversions, and community growth spanning over four decades, past and present, I would like to congratulate the all of those who have contributed, as a community, through the association. The Book and CD is indicative of the journey."
LESMURDIE 2000 was conceived as a way for our community to invite leaders of international standing to address us and to be questioned on their special area of interest. The aim was to seek the way towards a sustainable future. Meetings were recorded and transcripts made. From these transcripts the new book and c.d have been born.
President of the Ratepayers Association Carol Everett said, "I would like to say a big Thank You to Barrie Oldfield OAM for his hard work in bringing the transcripts to life once again, to the Members of the Lesmurdie Ratepayers Association for their support and to the Shire of Kalamunda for a grant that assisted the LESMURDIE 2000 project."
Books and C.D's are available for purchase by contacting the Lesmurdie Ratepayers Association.

| From Arafat to Everest |

Madjitil Moorna Choir is inviting members of the community to get up close and personal with United Nations Humanitarian and mountaineer Mark Squirrell.
Mark will be talking about his mountaineering and related experience in his gripping presentation, From Arafat to Everest. Hear his amazing story and support the Madjitil Moorna Choir.
From Arafat to Everest will be held at 7.30pm this Thursday May 7 at Christ Church Grammar School, Queenslea Drive, Claremont.
Choir Coordinator Jo Randell said, "The Madjitil Moorna Choir will perform and we are thrilled that Doreen Green is able to be there to speak about her belief in this project as a catalyst for good, in Halls Creek. This would be your chance to hear what we plan to do, and speak to the people who will be doing it."
Tickets are only $15 and are available from Mountain Designs in Claremont, Kalamunda Bookshop in Kalamunda and Helena College, Glen Forrest. All funds raised will go to the Madjitil Moorna + Halls Creek Mob Project.
Madjitil Moorna is a choir that sings in Aboriginal languages for healing and reconciliation; quite an unusual thing in itself. In May 2007 the Choir will travel to Halls Creek. Within the group are craftspeople, artists, musicians, health professionals, teachers, a physiotherapist, a film-maker and the list goes on. The program of works that will take place in Halls creek is much more than the singing workshops at the district high school.
Together they will produce the Respect Yourself-Respect Your Culture Concert featuring the children, their families and much-loved local musicians. Then we will travel together to Kununurra to perform in the big Barramundi Concert as part of the annual Ord Valley Muster. This is providing a real focus for the project!
Led by Aboriginal musical directors, Della Rae Morrison and George Walley the choir will teach songs, learn local songs, and write new songs, which will then be performed with the children and their families for the whole town at the concert. At the end of a week of workshops the group will travel to Kununurra to perform in the Barramundi Concert as part of the Ord Valley Muster
The Madjitil Moorna and Halls Creek Mob project is supported by Healthway, the Department of Indigenous Affairs, the Shire of Kalamunda, the Shire of Halls Creek and the Jungarni - Jutiya Centre of Halls Creek.
