Market Day Success leads to Additional Parking

Success of the Kalamunda Village Markets, ran on the first Saturday of every month, has led to the Shire of Kalamunda allowing additional parking space on Market Day.

A signed area of Stirk Park, off Elizabeth Street, in Kalamunda will be opened to allow for parking, starting from Saturday the 1st of November to ensure that both local residents and tourists are able to park safely and access the town centre, local businesses and the village markets.

Shire of Kalamunda Executive Manager of Community Services Kevin O'Connor said, "The Shire of Kalamunda has worked in collaboration with Rotary, The Kalamunda Chamber of Commerce and local business operators to address potential parking issues on Market Day. We are all extremely pleased with the result and believe that the additional allocated parking will ensure that residents and visitors are able to enjoy the Kalamunda Village Market experience."

The parking will be available in November and December, following which a review will be undertaken of the initiatives success. The Markets are run by the Rotary Club of Kalamunda and operate in the Central Mall through to Barber Street in Kalamunda from 8am onwards.

Youth Proactive in Dieback Prevention

On the 27th October, students from Armadale Primary School joined the team from Dieback Treatment Services at Hartfield Park in the Shire of Kalamunda, to help save our natural bushland from the negative effects of dieback.

Phytophthora cinnamomi, phytophthora dieback, or simply just 'dieback', is a microscopic, soil-borne water-mould that is having a devastating effect on our local environment. Dieback attacks native species, horticultural crops, and garden plants and is threatening to drive rare plant species and the fauna dependant on them to extinction.

Students, parents and teachers from the school all assisted members of Dieback Treatment Services and the Shire of Kalamunda's Environmental Services team with the injection of Phosphite into trees at Hartfield Park. Phosphite is a biodegradable fungus that helps fight the devastation of dieback by boosting the natural defence systems of native plant species. If you would like more information on how your school or community group can help stop dieback in its tracks, check out the Dieback Working Group website: www.dwg.org.au.
