Frohe Weihnachten!
Now that my last Christmas order has left, I finally have time to lean back and think about the last months.

I am ever so grateful that I have found this new calling, and that YOU actually like my critters enough to adopt them, and invite them into your home! Thank you so much for your trust and support!

I wish you a wonderful holiday season, with your family, and a great start into the New Year. Or as we say:

Frohe Weihnachten und ein gutes Neues Jahr!

Recipe for vanilla crescent cookies (Vanillekipferl)
This must be my favorite German Christmas cookie ever!

Ingredients:

1-1/4 cup flour
1/4 cup, plus 1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 cup, plus 6 tablespoons butter, cold and cut into small pieces
2 egg yolks
5 packets vanilla sugar (available at specialty food stores)
1/2 cup powdered sugar
3-1/2 tablespoons peeled almonds
3-1/2 tablespoons hazelnuts
a pinch of salt

Directions:
Finely chop the hazelnuts. Sift the flour onto a large wooden board. Make a well in the flour and add the almonds, hazelnuts, sugar, salt, butter and egg yolks. Knead dough until it is smooth and pliable, but do not over knead. Wrap the dough in aluminum foil and let rest for 2 hours in the refrigerator.

Preheat the oven to 375° F. Divide the dough and form into several pencil-thick rolls. Cut the rolls into 2 inch lengths and bend into crescent shapes. Place on cookie sheets and bake on middle rack until golden brown, about 10 minutes.

Stir the vanilla sugar and powdered sugar together in a shallow bowl. Carefully dip the still warm crescent cookies in the sugar.

What's next?
I am currently taking a breather, and will hopefully add something new in 2008 - sock critter meets art.

Some of my sock critters will get their own original painting, and attach with velcro to the canvas so they don't get lost.

For me, those are perfect to brighten a nursery or child's room, and I have been lucky enough to have done custom orders in the past. I am currently trying out smaller canvas sizes, to allow for shipping to the States - if everything goes well, those will be added to my shop in January.

Stay tuned?
