WA Sports Federation Member Profile - WA Flying Disc Association

The WA Sports Federation is collating profiles of member organisations to circulate. The idea behind this is to raise our members' profiles and encourage learning from one another. Expressions of Interest - Professional Combat Sports Commissioners

The Professional Combat Sports Commission (PCSC), the controlling body for all professional combat sports contests held in Western Australia, is seeking applications from persons wishing to be considered for appointment as Commissioners. The PCSC has three positions available, which will become vacant as of 31 January 2011.

2011 Australian of the Year Awards

Nominations for the 2011 Australian of the Year Awards are now open. The categories include:   

  • Australian of the Year
  • Senior Australian of the Year (60 years and over)
  • Young Australian of the Year (16 to 30 years)
  • Australia's Local Hero (for those making extraordinary contributions to their local community)

Golf WA Launch

Golf WA was officially launched on the 24 August 2010 by the Hon. Terry Waldron MLA at the Royal Perth Golf Club, WA. Over 120 guests attended the launch, where the new logo was launched (see left).

Safe Clubs 4 Kids wins an award

The Safe Clubs 4 Kids project has been presented a Highly Commended Award at the 2010 ICCWA Awards. Safe Clubs 4 Kids is an initiative aimed at creating child safe environments in sport and recreation organisations.  It is designed to educate and assist the industry to practise safe and fun environments for junior members. The program is into its third year following on from a successful pilot conducted in 2008. 

A strength of this project is the partnerships between the Department of Sport and Recreation, WA Sports Federation, Surf Life Saving WA, Working With Children Screening Unit  and the WA Police Child Protection Squad who are working collaboratively to deliver this initiative.

WA Athletes in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games

Western Australia currently has 32 athletes competing in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games from across 13 sports including: Archery, Athletics, Aquatics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics - WAG, Gymnastics - RSG, Rugby 7's, Shooting, Tennis, Weightlifting and Wrestling. The number of athletes from WA are expected to rise with selections still to be announced in Netball and Men's and Women's Hockey.
