WA Sports Federation Awards

WA Sports Federation continues to support and recognise students studying in the areas of sport and recreation in Western Australia.  WA Sports Federation recently presented prizes to students at the University of Notre Dame, Edith Cowan University and Curtin University of Technology.

The University of Notre Dame, School of Business Awards evening, was held on 17 March 2010.  Hayley Coppinger was presented the WA Sports Federation prize for her contribution to the community during her studies (pictured below on the right holding her certificate).

Edith Cowan University held their Faculty of Business & Law awards evening on 29 March 2010.  Ben Smith (pictured above left) was presented the WA Sports Federation prize.  Ben completed a Bachelor of Sport Management degree and achieved the highest weighted average mark of the 2009 graduates.  

Curtin University of Technology School of Business Law and Taxation 2010 Prizes Ceremony was held on 19 May 2010.  The 2009 WA Sports Federation prizes were awarded to Timothy Murdoch and Catherine Tate. 

Timothy (pictured left) was the best graduating student in sports administration units in the Bachelor of Commerce in a Sports Management Major.  Catherine was the Best Graduating Student in the Bachelor of Commerce (Sports Administration & Marketing).

Coaches Awards Dinner

The Coaches Awards Dinner was held on Friday 21 May 2010 at the Duxton Hotel Perth.  The Coaches Awards recognise sports coaches for their outstanding contribution and commitment to sport in Western Australia.

Sixteen sports lodged nominations for High Performance Coach of the Year and Community Sports Coach of the Year categories.

120 people attended the Awards evening MC'd by Tim Gossage.  Ron Alexander, Director General of the Department of Sport and Recreation and Rob Thompson, CEO WA Sports Federation, presented certificates and gifts to all nominees during the evening.

Rob Thompson is pictured on the right presenting a certificate to Nick Ciffolilli from the sport of Cricket. 

Trails Conference

The annual WA State Trails Conference will be held on Thursday 17 June 2010 from 8.30am - 4.00pm at the Perth Zoo.

The conference will start with the history of trails in WA and will progress to the future.

The conference will include: trail focus sessions on local government, planning for the future, building for sustainability, linkages to business and nature play.

ECU - Industry Practice Project

Edith Cowan University is inviting sport and recreation associations to become involved with their 'Industry Practice Project'.

Students in their third year of both Bachelor of Sport Management and Bachelor of Event, Sport and Recreation Management courses, are required to undertake 100-160 hours voluntary practical experience in a sport or recreation/leisure setting of their choice. Most often, the practical experiences are organised around a specific project which the student works on (under supervision).

If your organisation has a suitable project please send an email to Dr Ruth Sibson by Monday 7 June providing an indication of the type of placement(s) that might be available and a project brief including:

  • The details/nature/outline of the project
  • Any knowledge/skills/interest students need to have to complete the project
  • Any knowledge/skills that might be developed as a consequence of taking up the project
  • Name and details of contact person for interested students.

Cycling Western Australia (WA) is the peak body for cycle racing in Western Australia and a member of Cycling Australia.

Cycling WA is seeking a highly motivated professional for the position of Chief Executive Officer.  The position provides an exciting opportunity to lead the future development of cycling in Western Australia.  A new Board has recently been appointed by the members of Cycling WA to govern the sport and provide strategic direction to support and enhance the development of competitive cycling.

Certificate IV - Training and Assessment

The Certificate IV is aimed at those who want to train and/or assess within the sport and recreation sector.  The course provides participants with the competence to deliver and assess competency-based training in their industry and in a range of learning environments.

TBA Australian National Disability Tenpin Bowling Championships

The TBA Australian National Disability Tenpin Bowling Championships will be held in Western Australia from Saturday 29 May to Friday 4 June 2010.  The Championships will be held at AMF Bowling Centre in Joondalup.
