Ministers Breakfast

The Minister for Sport and Recreation Hon. Terry Waldron, recently held a breakfast for profile one state sport associations. 

The attendees had the opportunity to speak with the Minister directly and raise topics of interest and listen to specific presentations. 

Discussion topics included:

  • Financial Management Support Project
  • Workforce Development Survey
  • Professional Development Evening to support invited state sport associations
  • Clubs Online
  • Building the profile of small state sport associations
  • The Department of Sport and Recreation support for national championships held in WA

Australian State Sports Federations Alliance

Rob Thompson, WA Sports Federation's CEO, recently attended the Australian State Sports Federations Alliance meeting in Sydney.  This network of federations provides the opportunity to exchange information relevant to their operations.  Topics included:

  • Reports on major activities in States/Territories. 
  • Progress of the Federal Reviews of Sport
  • National Advocacy Arrangements for Sport
  • Productivity Commission Report on AFP Sector
  • National (industrial) Sport Award

Vouchers for Volunteers

If you volunteer for a not-for-profit organisation, you are invited to apply to receive FREE BP fuel to help in your volunteering work. 

Permanent Australian residents who volunteer for a registered not-for-profit organisation dedicated to areas such as: development and community; education and health and human services are invited to apply.

Community Inclusion Disability Project

Claudia Ferrante is the Community Inclusion Project Manager at the WA Sports Federation.

The Community Inclusion Disability Project is now into its ninth month. It's aim is to increase the participation of people with a disability into mainstream sport/recreation opportunities. To date, the project has worked with 14 clubs and approximately 25 individuals with a disability in the south east corridor of the Perth metropolitan area.

Training and Development Opportunities

A range of training and development opportunities are available:

Assessors Course - introduction to assessing in sport

The Australian Sports Commission Assessor Training Program is designed to assist assessors improve their skills.

This course will be held from 9 - 5pm on Sunday 30 May 2010 at the Department of Sport and Recreation.

Nutrition for Peak Performance

This two hour workshop will help you discover the best foods to eat pre, during and post exercise for optimum performance and recovery. 

The workshop will be held from 6.30pm - 8.30pm at FJ Clarke Lecture Complex, Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital Nedlands.

Coaches Awards Dinner

The inaugral Coaches Awards Dinner will be held on Friday 21 May 2010 at the Duxton Hotel in Perth. 

The Awards Dinner will provide state sport associations with the opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of their 'Coach of the Year' and present other coaches with commendation certificates for their contribution to the sport in the area of coaching.  Read more.

Volunteer Learning and Development Grants

The applications are now open for the Volunteer Learning and Development Grants. 

The Volunteer Learning and Development Grants aim to help volunteers in their club or sport fufil their roles more efficiently and effectively through learning and development opportunities.

The grants will be offered in two categories - the first for 'Clubs' and the second 'State Sporting Associations'.  Five grants of up to $2000 will be offered and awarded under each category in 2010.  For more information click here.
