Community Inclusion Disability Project

The Community Inclusion Disability Project aims to assist community sport and recreation organisations to increase their capacity to further embrace the participation of people with a disability.

The WA Sports Federation in partnership with the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Disability Services Commission has commenced this project to achieve inclusion through engaging, supporting and facilitating partnerships between community organisations and people with a disability.

Although the purpose of this project is to support local clubs, to raise their awareness and capacity to include people with a disability, it is important to work in partnership with state sport and recreation organisations.

For further information about how to get involved click here.  If you are a state sport or recreation organisation and would like further information or support in this area please contact Claudia Ferrante on 0439 975 997 or claudiaferrante@wasportsfed.asn.au

Training and Development Opportunities

A range of training and development opportunities are available in the coming months including:

Mentor Training Course - Monday 8 March 6pm -9pm.

This course covers the interpersonal skills required for mentors and the planning and processes of mentoring. It contains a number of practical activities to practice mentoring skills. On completion of the workshop, mentors should be able to plan and organise mentoring relationships and assist mentees to develop and improve.

This course is aimed at people who are mentoring coaches and officials either as part of accreditation requirements for the National Coaching Accreditation Scheme; National Officiating Accreditation Scheme; and/or professional development of coaches and officials. It is recommended that participants are familiar with the mentoring structure and the role of a mentor within their sport before attending the workshop. Click here for more information.

Member Protection Information Officers (MPIO) Course - Monday 12 April 8.30am - 4.30pm

The MPIO course provides members of sport and recreation organisations with an opportunity to increase their understanding of harassment, discrimination and how to create child safe environments and learn practical skills to take on a MPIO role.

The course will be held on Monday 12 April from 8.30am - 4.30pm at the Department of Sport and Recreation.  Click here to view the course flyer.
