WA Sports Federation AGM

Thank you to the WA Sports Federation Members who attended the 2008/2009 AGM on Tuesday 27 October.

The well attended meeting saw the adoption of changes to WA Sports Federation's Constitution; approval of the annual report and a presentation by Peter Bowman from Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships.

The networking opportunity after the official closing of the meeting was another valuable opportunity for people within the sport and recreation industry.  The next General Meeting of Council will be in March 2010.

Engaging Schools in Sport

The WA Schools Network, in partnership with a range of agencies, is offering a free seminar to explore and develop links between schools and sporting organisations.  The seminar will be held from 8.30am - 12 noon at Cambridge Bowling and Recreation Club on Thursday 19 November, followed by a networking lunch.

The seminar is aimed at organisations who would like to discover how best to work with schools and school sport agencies and ultimately increase the reach and participation levels of their sport in schools.

The seminar will include three components:

  • Presentations from a range of school sport agencies about their role and how to work in partnership to increase the exposure and participation of your sport.
  • The Department of Education and Training will present information about curriculum, policy and procedures to enable sporting organisations to increase their understanding.  This will include information about how best to approach schools and how to 'sell' your sport to them.
  • After hearing from a range of presenters, a workshop session will be facilitated for participants to explore and plan their junior sport priorities for 2010.

At the completion of the seminar, participants will feel more confident to work in partnership with schools and school sport agencies and have plans for the 2010 school year.

To view the seminar flyer with registration details click here.  For any further information contact Hannah Good, WA Schools Network Coordinator, on 9383 7708 or schoolsnetwork@achperwa.asn.au.

Recognising Regional Volunteers

WA Sports Federation is working in partnership with ABC Local Radio to recognise the importance of volunteering in the sport and recreation industry.

Volunteers are the backbone of WA communities and are the support behind every athlete.

Volunteers involved in junior sport in regional WA have the opportunity to be nominated for the 'Volunteer of the Year in regional junior sports'.  A winner in each region will be selected and receive a Safe Clubs 4 Kids sports pack, and the overall regional winner will be invited to attend the 2009 ANZ Sports Star Awards in January.

Please direct your regional clubs and associations to their ABC Local Radio station websites for information about how to nominate and thank their volunteers:
