WA Sports Federation Annual General Meeting

WA Sports Federation Members are encouraged to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) at 5.30 pm for 5.45 pm on Tuesday 27 October 2009 at Cambridge Bowling and Recreation Club.

The AGM will include the election of office bearers to the WA Sports Federation Board and the presentation of the 2009 annual report and financial statement.

A special presentation will be given by Darren Beazley, Director of Commercial Operations of Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships, on the preparations for the Olympic Qualifying Event in WA.

All members will shortly receive further correspondence about the AGM.

WA Sports Federation welcomes a new staff member

The Federation would like to welcome Claudia Ferrante who has recently commenced her role as the Community Inclusion Project Manager.  Claudia has recently moved back to Perth after six years living and working in the Eastern States. 

The Community Inclusion Project aims to increase the participation of people with a disability in local sport and recreation.  This project is currently in a consultation phase.  If you would like more information about the project please contact Claudia on 9387 8100 or claudiaferrante@wasportsfed.asn.au.

2009 ANZ Sports Star Award Nominations

The nominations are open for WA's premier sports awards, the 2009 ANZ Sports Star Awards.  This is an opportunity for your organisation to recognise high achieving individuals and teams.

Nominations are sought for the following:

- The West Australian ANZ Sports Star

- Smarter than Smoking Junior Sports Star

- Channel Seven Perth Team

- KPMG Coach

- Gibson & Gibson Lawyers Official 

- Skilled Service to Sport

Nominations should be returned to WA Sports Federation by 23 October 2009. 

Seniors Sport and Recreation Advisory Committee

After more than two years of consultation, the 'Seniors Sport and Recreation Advisory Committee' (SSRAC) has been formed and was launched on 15 September.

As a sub-committee of WA Sports Federation, the SSRAC is a policy and advocacy advisory group with the aim of encouraging an active lifestyle for people forty-five years and over.  Ten independent people were invited to join the sub-committee following consultation with the Department of Sport and Recreation and the Seniors Recreation Council:

Training and Development

A range of workshops and courses are available during October including:

Member Protection Information Officers (MPIO) Course:

The revised one day course provides members of sport and recreation organisations with an opportunity to increase their understanding of harassment, discimination and how to create child safe environments.  Participants will learn practical skills to take on a MPIO role.  Read more.

Presenters Course:

The presenters course is designed for officials, coaches and administrators and will provide an overview of presentation skills including: the role of the presenter, engaging the learner and facilitation skills.  This course is being held on Monday 5 October and Wednesday 7 October 2009.  Read more.

  • Officials Leadership Workshop - Creating an environment where everyone can fully perform.

This workshop will provide officials with a greater understanding of themselves, the direction of their 'official' vision and help create better quality experiences for all.  Read more.

WA Sports Federation has developed a resource to support sport and recreation organisations understand the process for applying for and effectively managing grants.

2009 Sportspeople Workplace Survey

People working in sport, fitness and aquatics jobs in Australia and New Zealand are encouraged to participate in a national survey mapping employment and salary trends for the sector. 

This survey aims to provide a snap shot of workplace trends and practices within the sport, fitness and aquatic sectors in Australia and New Zealand.  The survey will take approximately five minutes for you to complete.  The results from the survey will be published in late 2009.

Sport and Recreation Clubs can Share up to $10,000
