Lotterywest Supporting WA Communities

Lotterywest is celebrating a historic announcement in its grants area; a record milestone of $100 million given last financial year to more than 1300 charity and community groups around WA.

Since the establishment of Lotterywest in 1933, over $3 billion has been given back to the community as direct grants to charitable and community groups and in statutory funding to the health, sports and arts sectors in WA.

Many organisations, including WA Sports Federation, have been fortunate to benefit from Lotterywest grants and would be unable to reach as many people and communities without their support.

Lotterywest Chairman, Clyde Bevan said,

"We would like to thank everyone who has ever played Lotto or brought a Scratchie.  Everytime you buy a Lotto ticket or pick up a 'Scratchie' you are supporting some very special WA community organisations".

WA Sports Federation congratulates Lotterywest and looks forward to their continued support of the sport and recreation industry in future years.

How Could a Student Support your Organisation?

From time to time WA Sports Federation receives enquiries from students who would like to either volunteer or gain part-time work in our industry.

Two recent requests from a second and third year student seeking an opportunity to get involved in the industry include:

  • A third year Sports Management student, with previous industry experience, is looking to complete her 100-160 prac work experience and has an interest in events, administration and operations of sport and recreation organisations.
  • A second year Sport and Recreation Management student, with sports administration experience, is seeking part-time work whilst completing his degree.

If your organisation would like further information about either student please contact WA Sports Federation on 9387 8100 or info@wasportsfed.asn.au

International Wheelchair Basketball

The Herb Graham Recreation and Fitness Centre, home of the Perth Wheelcats, is set to play host to an international wheelchair basketball series between the Perth Wheelcats and the Great Britain Paralympic Team - next week 7 and 8 August.

The Wheelcats remain undefeated this year in the National Wheelchair Basketball League. The British Team won bronze in Beijing and look to be a strong contender for the 2012 London Paralympics.

This is a great opportunity to see high quality wheelchair basketball and a great rivalry which has intensified over the years.
