Charter for Active Kids launched

A Blueprint for active and healthy children in Western Australia has been launched to address the physical inactivity of children and adolescents in WA.

WA Sports Federation is part of the Executive Committee of The Children’s Physical Activity Coalition of Western Australia (CPAC) who worked together to develop the Charter.

The Coalition’s vision is to see all children and adolescents in Western Australia actively participating in sufficient physical activity for good social and physical health.

The Charter is calling for action from the WA Government and community, and for the allocation of a minimum 10 million dollars each year to support a comprehensive ongoing 10-year strategy based on the CPAC’s Charter for Active Kids.

The Charter:
1. Lists ten key action areas that need to be priorities.
2. Identifies key strategies within each of these key action areas.
3. Provides supporting information and evidence for the importance of each action area and for the effectiveness of the listed strategies.

The Charter also aims to encourage further community initiatives to target the inactivity of children and adolescents.

Coaching Workshop
Traditional V Game Sense Coaching with Les Bee

Les is Manager, Sport Education Victoria, based at the Victorian Institute of Sport and has worked in coach education for over twenty years.

He presents regularly on Games Sense at state and national level coaching conferences and at the annual Victorian ACHPER Conference.

What is Game Sense?
Game Sense is a relatively new approach to teaching and coaching which uses games at the focus of the session. By focusing on the game, rather than on technique practice, players are encouraged to become more tactically aware and make better decisions during the game, as well as beginning to think strategically about game concepts whilst developing skills within realistic contexts and most importantly, having fun.
