Different levels of sponsorship are available which include:

The Major Projects Sponsorship Program (Over $5,000)

There are three funding rounds for the over $5,000 sponsorship program and applications must be submitted according to the following closing dates.

Closing Dates:

November 30: Applications for sponsorship of projects starting in April, May, June or July must be submitted by November 30.

July 31: Applications for sponsorship of projects starting in December, January, February or March must be submitted by July 31.

March 31: Applications for sponsorship of projects starting in August, September, October or November each year must be submitted by March 31.

$5,000 and Less Sponsorship Program

Applications can be submitted at any time of the year but must be received at Healthway at least four calendar months before the commencement of the project.

While Healthway recognises that participating in sport and physical activity has many positive benefits, applicants for Healthway sponsorships need to also demonstrate they can reach key target groups such as children and youth, Indigenous people or rural and remote communities, provide opportunities to promote health and make the environment more healthy.

CHILD SAFE ENVIRONMENTS

The Department of Sport and Recreation (DSR) and WA Sports Federation (WASF) recommend that organisations have their employees and volunteers undergo criminal record screening to help create safe environments for their members. There are several ways that your organisation can create child safe environments.

Working with Children Check (WWC)

The WWC is compulsory under state legislation for persons working in child related work in Western Australia and is valid for three years.

National Police Check for Volunteers

This check is recommended for all volunteers who are exempt from the WWC legislation, for example, parents and other volunteers (i.e. Club Treasurer) who perform duties that are not directly related to working with children.  It provides basic information about whether a person has a criminal record or a pending charge.

Only parent bodies that are incorporated or have relevant legal status and provide a community service can participate.  State sporting associations will need to register and co-ordinate the program for clubs.

The check costs $10 per person and is processed through the Office for Seniors Interests and Volunteering (OSIV). If a person already possesses a WWC they will receive the National Police Check for Volunteers for free.  It is recommended that volunteers re apply every three years.

National Police Certificates

People who undertake duties other than those related to working with children in paid positions in an organisation are recommended to obtain National Police Certificates.

Volunteers whose National Police Check for Volunteers indicates they have a criminal record may need to obtain a National Police Certificate in accordance with an organisation's policies.

The National Police Certificate costs $44.50 per person and applications can be made in person at any local police station.

For more information on creating child safe environments please visit our website  www.wasportsfed.asn.au/workingwithchildren.php or contact Catherine Young, Working with Children Project Manager on 9492 9736 or email catherine.young@dsr.wa.gov.au
