Institute to nominate to new Standards committees

The Institute has been asked by Standards Australia to nominate suitable representatives to the Bar Chairs and Spacers sub-committee of the BD-084 committee and to the BD-101 Retrofitting Structures by Plating committee.  Members with an interest in either nomination are asked to contact the Institute's national office for further information.

The Institute's nomination to the BD-002 Concrete Structures committee is also under review.  Meanwhile, information from Standards Australia suggests that the new version of AS3600 will not be released until early 2007.  Standards Australia wants to release the new Standard together with the commentary and both documents will not be complete until next year.  Meanwhile, Standards Australia are also discussing with the Institute how best to conduct a seminar series on the new  AS3600 standard and commentary and when final arrangements are in hand members will be advised.

Last opportunity to comment on draft Reinforcement Detailing Handbook

More than 250 copies of the draft of the Reinforcement Detailing Handbook have been forwarded to members and other industry groups with an interest in reviewing the draft.  Comments on the draft need to be received at the Institute's national office by the end of this month (July 2006).

Once content issues have been resolved, further technical information from Steel Reinforcement Institute of Australia (SRIA) and the Australian Certification Authority for Reinforcing Steel (ACRS) will be added to the text to finalise what will be a substantial and authoratative publication.

Latest edition of Concrete in Australia in the mail - further enhancement plans being implemented

The most recent edition of Concrete in Australia magazine commenced being mailed to members during the week commencing 17 July 2006.

Under agreements reached recently with Concrete Masonry Association of Australia (CMAA), Steel Reinforcement Institute of Australia (SRIA), Australian Certification Authority for Reinforcing Steel (SRIA) and Concrete Cutting Industry Association of Australia (CCIA), each organisation will provide technically based content to supplement the existing format.  These initiatives build on the arrangements already in place with National Precast Concrete Association Australia (NPCAA) and Concrete Pipe Association of Australasia (CPAA).

Circulation has also increased and well over 2000 copies of each edition are being distributed to members and across the industry.

Member companies interested in advertising in Concrete in Australia magazine and members wishing to submit articles, papers or project features for inclusion in future editions should contact Ian Booth at the Institute's national office.
