Wangaratta Choristers Christmas Concert Wednesday 3rd December, 8pm, Oxley Town Hall, Oxley - Charity Concert Monday 8th December, 8pm, St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Corowa. Performing Arts Studies Auditions - Dance and Theatre Goulburn Ovens Institute TAFE December 2008 The world of performing arts provides an environment of innovation, creativity, critical thinking and professional practice. GOTAFE offer courses ideal for people wishing to start their career path in the entertainment industry. Courses will also offer opportunities for existing dance teachers, performers and technicians’ to obtain a qualification for the skills and knowledge they have already acquired through prior experience. GOTAFE courses will be delivered at GOTAFE, with the Benalla Performing Arts Convention Centre (BPACC) located on the Benalla Campus. Courses are available at the Certificate IV and Diploma level. Shepparton Arts Festival - Call for 3D Artists Applications close 16 January 2009 One of the highlights of the Shepparton Arts Festival is undoubtedly the Carm Sculptural Award. The theme of the 2009 Festival is "New Horizons" and artists are required to produce pieces that reflect the theme. A brief, current CV, four labelled images of previous works and a brief statement of no more than 50 words of the proposed work adn how it related to the theme. ArtPost Artist Media Opportunity ArtPost, an interactive website and short video series for TV broadcast, which showcases artists working in regional and remote parts of the country, has been officially launched by the Federal Minister for the Environment, Heritage and the Arts, Peter Garett. The site provides the tools for students, teachers, art lovers and artists to create short videos about who they are and their work, for inclusion on the digital map. In five easy steps, a video can be created and uploaded directly to what will become a living art gallery of all corners of Australia. These videos will also be broadcast on ABC1 and ABC2. KITE: Mike Brown and the Sydney Twelve Wangaratta exhibitions Gallery 6 December - 25 January What the hell are you people doing in an art gallery anyway? If you are looking for art, you won't find it here. Mike Brown 1972. In 1964 Mike Brown produced a work - known since as The Kite - which challenged and criticised twelve Sydney artists for their blatant embracing of the commercial art-world and its perceived pitfalls. KITE: Mike Brown and the Sydney twelve returns to this monumental episod in Australian art history juxtaposing Brown's work wtih those whom he criticised. ‘Life In Our Valley’ by Beryl Gay Anna Bienvenu Photographic Gallery adjoining Milawa Mustards 2 - 9 December 2008 Beryl was the recent winner of the Viewers Choice Award at Milawa Gourmet Regions “A Feast Of Art” show. The prize being one weeks exhibition at the Anna Bienvenu Photographic Gallery. Beryl describes herself as a responsive traditional realist artist. She has used the mediums of oil painting, pencil and pastels, in this special exhibition of historic buildings, still Life's and landscapes, all of which have been inspired by our beautiful valley. Beryl has won many awards and held several solo exhibitions in the past but this is the first time she has held an exhibition in our area since moving to myrtleford in 2002. The Rural City of Wangaratta's Summer In the Parks Program is back this year - with the usual jam-packed program of events. It kicks of on the 14 December with the Annual Lion's Carols by Candlelight closely followed by a New Year's Eve event which includes a movie and a fire works spectacular - keep an eye out in your letter box for the program.

txtART: textile art for young people The Workshop Space, behind the Wangaratta exhibitions Gallery, 56 Ovens Street Wangaratta Monday 8 December 2008 The Gallery has formed a textile art (txtART) group for funky young people aged 12 - 16. Since the first workshop in July 2007 participants have made "quilted" artworks on canvas, learnt basic knitting, crochet and embroidery techniques, felting, beading and textile jewellery techniques, lino printing on fabric, machine embroidery and have made soft textile sculptures. The txtART group meets monthly for after-school workshops where members will be able to see demonstrations of traditional & experimental textile skills from textile artists and members of our regional textile groups, before incorporating their new skill into a fun project. So if you are aged 12 - 16 and would like to learn some new tricks to show off your creative flair and individuality, you need to join txtART! Cost: Free! Bookings are essential. Community Singing Leader Training with Fay White Galen College Auditorium, Phillipson Street Wangaratta Saturday 6 December 2008 - 10am - 6.30pm Fay White is a talented singer and songwriter who is also renowned for pioneering a from of Community Singing (with food) called Vocal Nosh and in connection with Community Music Victoria, trains singing leaders and encourages community music making in Victoria. Carols By Candlelight to Kick Off this Year's Summer in the Parks The annual Carols By Candlelight Candlelight Celebrations presented by the Wangaratta Lions Club will mark the beginning of the Rural City of Wangaratta Summer in the Parks Program for 2008 - 2009. Wayne Robinson takes the reigns again as the musical director for this year's carols with all the usual favourite tunes being presented.
